Our goal is to create a village community where every child reaches their full potential.
Statistics Canada records that 46% of parents use some type of childcare for children aged 14 years and younger. The Ubuntu Village programs are geared to support and engage Elementary School students between the ages of 7 and 13 years of age. Considering Ontario has the most costly child care in the country, averaging $677 per child, The Village addresses this issue by providing free care during Summer Vacation, and March Break. In years past, the Village also provided free after-school programs as well as tutoring. Our pilot program began in Durham in 2001 and expanded to Scarborough in 2008 at Tam O’Shanter Public school. Bridging the gap between the end of school and the average work-day end.
According to Statistics Canada, the leading reasons behind the choice of childcare in Ontario being; location (proximity to home, work, school etc.), having trust in care providers, and affordability. The Ubuntu Village program has been designed to successfully provide a nurturing, safe and free of cost care that is locally situated to offer a centralized support to community access
